Sleepy Stories ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy and the privacy of your children. This policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, and your rights under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

1. Who we are
Sleepy Stories is an online subscription service delivering AI-generated personalised bedtime stories to families. We are the data controller for the personal data you provide to us.
2. What data we collect
Account data
- Your full name and email address
- Your timezone (used to deliver stories at the correct local time)
- Subscription and billing information (processed by Stripe — we never store card details)
- Referral codes and referral relationships
Child profile data
You choose to provide the following about each child to personalise their stories. All child data is entered and controlled by you as the parent or guardian:
- First name, date of birth, and gender
- Interests, dislikes, favourite colour, and additional notes
- Names and types of pets
- Names of friends and siblings
- Special occasions (e.g. birthdays, holidays)
- Preferred story genres
Usage data
- Stories generated and delivered, including ratings you provide
- Story requests submitted
- Log data such as IP addresses and pages visited (via server logs and analytics)

We do not use your data for advertising and we do not sell your data to third parties.
4. Children's data
Our service is directed at parents and guardians, not children directly. We collect data about children solely to personalise stories as instructed by you. We rely on you as the parent or guardian to ensure that any information you provide about a child is accurate and that you have authority to share it with us.
We do not knowingly allow children to create accounts or interact with our service independently.
5. Who we share your data with
- Stripe — payment processing and subscription management. Stripe Privacy Policy.
- AI story generation providers (OpenAI / Anthropic) — child profile details are included in prompts to generate stories. These providers process data under data processing agreements and do not use our prompts to train their models.
- Email delivery provider — to send stories and notifications to your email address.
- Google Analytics — anonymous usage analytics, only if you have consented via the cookie banner.
All third-party processors are bound by data processing agreements and may not use your data for their own purposes.
6. Data retention
- Account data is retained for as long as your account is active, plus 12 months after deletion.
- Child profile data is deleted when you remove a profile or close your account.
- Generated stories are retained in your account archive and deleted with your account.
- Billing records are retained for 7 years for legal and accounting purposes.
7. International transfers
Some of our third-party providers process data outside the UK. Where this occurs, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place (such as Standard Contractual Clauses or UK adequacy decisions).
8. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or port your data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any right, email support@sleepystories.co.uk. We will respond within 30 days.
You may also lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
9. Security
We use encrypted connections (TLS), hashed passwords, and access controls to protect your data. No method of internet transmission is 100% secure.
10. Changes to this policy
We will notify you of material changes by email. The date at the top of this page reflects the current version.
